Don’t Isolate!

I had an incident happen this weekend, and as a single father with no one else close to my kids or I, the repercussions of my exclusivity could have been absolutely devastating!

This will be a shorter post, but I hope the words find the ones that need them!

It’s very easy to isolate and be very selective of whom we allow to get close. I know this all too well! I always lived by the motto “we are who we surround ourselves with”. There’s no one I find worthy of wanting to be associated with in that sense, except for the two I work with. My bosses.

I had an incident happen this weekend, and as a single father with no one else close to my kids or I, the repercussions of my exclusivity could have been absolutely devastating! I won’t go into detail publicly but I will share privately if you want a reference, if it will help YOU gain perspective and change slightly.

Had it not been for my bosses, who were under no obligation to assist, things would have been worse. Please take my advice:

  1. in today’s world, we don’t need to remember phone numbers… Pick two or three people close to you that you know you can count on and remember those numbers!!!
  2. Always let those people know your plans and always share your plans with your loved ones via direct word of mouth or a note easily found!
  3. Take advantage of features like “send later” for texts and emails. schedule it to be delivered the following day in the morning of plans, whereabouts, people who are or were with you. In the even of something happening and you aren’t able to make it home as expected!
  4. Make contact with SOMEONE as soon as you are able. always carry a power bank, a cable or two, water, and a little cash!

That’s it. Again, if you need a better understanding, you can reach out! Email is accepted, but the best way to get a hold of me is via social! Don’t put your family through a bad situation because you lack communication, as I did. While I hate how it happened, I learned a valuable lesson. One I want to share and spread so others can avoid it.
